The Night-Light
A downloadable game for Windows
"Keep the light on, sweetheart. I'll be back."
The Night-Light is a short narrative adventure in 16×16 pixel art. On Kerlann, a small island at the end of the world, a fog erases memories, then faces, then colours. Maëlle, seventeen, keeps the lighthouse burning while she waits for her mother to come home.
But the lantern does not burn oil. It feeds on Glimmers: fragments of memories drifting in the fog. Burn them and the light carries farther, and out in the beam you think you can see a boat coming in. Or give them back to the people they belong to, and a colour returns to the world.
Three nights. Four memories. One light to keep burning, or to let die.
Features
- A story about grief and letting go: about 30 to 45 minutes, three endings, plus variations depending on what you gave back and what you burned.
- A world that loses its colours: everything starts grey except the lantern and Maëlle's yellow raincoat. Each memory you return brings one colour back, and a colour you burn never comes back.
- Explore Kerlann by night: the lighthouse, the village, the harbour, the post office, the moor and the graveyard, swept by the beam of the lantern. New areas open as the fog lifts, night after night.
- Talk to the islanders: they forget, and what they say changes with the night and with what you did.
- No game over: the choice is never "good or evil". Burning a Glimmer is rewarded with a vision, which is exactly what makes it tempting.
- Hand-made pixel art and sound: 16×16 tiles, a custom bitmap font, dithered lighting, and a soundscape of sea, wind, creaking wood and very little music.
- English and French: switch the language from the title screen ("Language / Langue").
- Keyboard or gamepad. Autosave at the start of every night ("Continue the vigil").
Controls
- Move: arrows / WASD / ZQSD | Gamepad: left stick or D-pad
- Talk, confirm, speed up the text: Space / Enter / E | Gamepad: A

En français
« Garde la lumière allumée, ma puce. Je reviens. »
